OUR STORY
Birdie is an independent boutique in Vienna. We bring small Japanese labels to Europe that no one else carries here, alongside a handful of European ateliers we’ve come to love ourselves. Everything on our rails is chosen by hand — and every piece carries a story.
How it started
We began in 2022 with a simple intention: to bring here the brands Europe hadn’t yet discovered. Small Japanese ateliers where patterns are still cut by hand. Mills in Okayama and Kyoto that have worked at the same rhythm for decades. Makers whose names you only come to know once you’ve worn their clothes for a while.
Out of that intention grew our exclusive collaborations — pieces our makers create only for Birdie. That’s where we started, and where we still stand today.
What we learned along the way
Over time, something became clear: the real heart of what we do isn’t in the clothes, but in the people behind them. In every shirt there is a life, a temperament, a devotion to craft. The love poured into the making doesn’t disappear — it stays in the fabric, in the fit, in the way a piece lives on its owner.
The love that goes into a piece stays in it, and travels to the person who wears it.
We’ve seen it happen often: someone comes in for a shirt or a coat and realises they’re wearing another person’s labour, attention, and time. It isn’t magic. It’s what happens when a piece is made slowly, with soul — and finds the right person.
Our customers
Birdie’s customers live across continents and do entirely different things. Lawyers, teachers, musicians, architects, mothers. One thing they share: they take what they do seriously — and they care about what they put on. They don’t come looking for a trend. They come for something real — and they stay because they find it.
Many of them become part of Birdie for the long run. They share their stories with us, ask for advice, travel to Vienna to see the collections in person, write to us from Tokyo, Paris, New York. Out of the shop, something larger is slowly taking shape — a circle of people around the world connected by one simple idea: what we choose to wear should mean something.
What matters to us
- Hand-picked, always. If a brand doesn’t move us, it doesn’t make it onto the rail. No compromises for the sake of assortment.
- Exclusive collaborations. With a few of our makers, we create pieces that exist only at Birdie.
- Honest pricing. We keep what we believe in and price it fairly. We don’t run the shop on trend cycles.
- Nothing wasted. What we can’t place with a customer, we pass on thoughtfully — to charity or to people who will love it.
- Real, lasting, made with love. We only bring in what we’re proud of: honest, well-made, and built to serve for years.
Where we’re going
Our goal is simple and ambitious at once: to bring a little more beauty, warmth, and connection into the world — between people who may never meet, but wear clothes made with the same love. We want Birdie to feel just as alive in Vienna as it does online, anywhere in the world our parcel can reach.
We believe that clothing can bring people together and inspire them. That when makers pour themselves into their work, it carries over to someone else. And that a small shirt stitched in a Japanese village can change the morning of someone in Europe — or across the ocean.
